Today was a crazy day. The death of Pop’s greatest icon, Michael Jackson. Regardless of what he’s been accused of, or of what he’s done in recent times, he is still probably one of the greatest entertainers to ever walk the earth. Also the death of Farrah Fawcett. I never really watched Charlie’s Angels prior to the Diaz, Liu, Barrymore edition, but she looked pretty hot way back when. Anyway a moment of silence for them…

Also happening today was the 2009 NBA Draft. I haven’t made a sports post yet, so here it goes. So for those who don’t really know me, don’t be surprised by my depth in sports. It’s something I’ve always had a interest in and continue to till today.
In my opinion, the draft that had a lot of teams not really addressing their needs. Obviously there were some teams that helped themselves out. Blake Griffin to Los Angeles, Thabeet to Memphis, Harden in OKC, even DeRozan to Toronto. All these teams seemed to have helped themselves out.
But Minnesota drafting three point guards? Tyreke Evans going to Sacramento to what? Backup Kevin Martin? Steph Curry to Golden State to learn from Monta Ellis? Or Utah selecting Eric Maynor to backup Deron Williams? More than likely the T’Wolves will be moving some of these guards out, but there were more pressing needs for the other three teams that I mentioned above, especially with the Kings. I’ve been reading that Steph Curry could be headed to Phoenix which I think would be great. Steve Nash is aging and may not actually be in Phoenix next year, but we’ll see.

Also going on in the NBA was the finalizing of the trade of Shaq to Cleveland, and the trade of Vince Carter to the Magic. I really don’t know how much Shaq will help LeBron. He’s old, he’s slow, he’s old. I thought Cleveland could really use some outside help, and with the free agency period coming up, he may get that. We’ll just have to wait and see. As far as Orlando getting Carter, I think it definitely puts them in the driver’s seat to repeat as Eastern Conference champions. Although he too is climbing up in age, he’s still a very explosive player with a decent jumpshot. It kind of closes the door on them resigning Hedo Turkoglu, but if they can pick up some help in the draft and possibly a veteran in free agency, I really like their chances.
